Due to the closure of in-person performance tours, theatre shows, cultural events etc. the Atelier-Théâtre Burkinabé (ATB) has imagined and implemented an artistic resilience program: Télé-théâtre ATB. Télé-théâtre ATB distributes theatrical works digitally and provides entertainment, whilst educating its viewers and raising awareness about COVID-19 related topics on Burkinabe television stations.

ATB is on a mission to contribute to the evolution of theatre in Burkina Faso and francophone Africa through new theatrical techniques and research on African-centered productions and plays. It is training a new generation of theatre professionals, performers, and development practitioners on the continent, who will contribute to innovative and significant ways to sustainable and culturally appropriate. Theycontinuously demonstrate the power of theatre to enhance economic, social, cultural, and technical development.

COVID-19 has sowed fear and desolation by disrupting social, cultural and economic habits and practices. No more performance tours, no more theatre shows, no more community theatre projects, no more cultural events. There is high insecurity among thousands of displaced, desperate migrants.

The security crisis and health crisis have taken the lives of many people in the Sahel zone.

Atelier-Théâtre Burkinabé (ATB) planned and began to implement an artistic resilience program called “Télé-théâtre ATB” as a coping mechanism for the displaced desperate migrants in Burkinabé and other populations affected by the security and health crisis throughout the country. The program is developed to:

  • Equip people with the means to exist
  • Continue to create, distribute theatrical works, and provide entertainment
  • Offer awareness-raising shows
  • Broadcast the artistic creations on public and private television and radio stations both nationally and internationally
  • Support and accompany nationally and internationally anti-COVID 19 projects and efforts to restore peace and social cohesion through theatrical expression.

The themes will be chosen according to the needs expressed by partners in the field to meet development needs.

ATB‘s concrete needs facing Covid-19:

  • Digital expertise: to finalize the creation of a website and incorporate online streaming solutions.
  • Marketing and communications: to create a communication strategy and plan around the Tele-theater ATB program and a digital marketing strategy for their digital platform.
  • Business Planning: to ensure that the viewing of the programs generates income for the project.
  • Funding and Financing to raise 230 000 USD to set up creation, recording, distribution of media on the Internet, create a digital presence and website and to market their current products.
