Addressing households immediate needs – food and educational resources

Many families in Kenya have lost their sources of income due to the national lockdown and the economic impact of the crisis. Which is why Pitch A Dream decided to provide Family packs – which include reading materials and educational resources for children – to family household heads who have lost their sources of income owing to COVID-19 caused lay-offs.

Pitch A Dream supports children in Kenya who do not have access to books. They aim to provide sustainable reading and skill development workshops that enhance global awareness, cultivate a reading culture and provide an artistic skill development platform to children. They donate books and a bookshelf to the schools that they work with to facilitate a sustainable reading culture.

Many families in Kenya lost their sources of income due to the national lockdown. Families are currently on survival mode, making educational resources a luxury. There was a need to look at families wholesomely and address their immediate food needs even as we work to provide them with educational resources.

Pitch a Dream aims to provide household heads with monthly ‘Family Packs’ that will provide a wholesome approach to intervention during COVID-19 period. They aim to help the community by providing access to food parcels, providing cash-based interventions, and providing reading and educational resources for children. Pitch a Dream has been able to donate food parcels to a total of 500 beneficiaries across peri-urban Nairobi families and children homes so far. They hope to expand their reach to more households.
